About us

Our parish church serves the geographical area called 'Longlevens', on the north edge of Gloucester city. Longlevens began its life as a farming settlement, but as the city of Gloucester grew, so Longlevens became a distinctive suburb of the city. The present church is the third church to have served the people of this area, but only the first on the current site. Our present building was built in 1934. In the twenty-first century we serve a large residential area, and there is very little industry, and no agricultural activity, in the parish.

As an Anglican Parish Church we serve the whole population, and not just the regular congregation that worships with us. This is largely worked out in our active involvement with the local schools, with pre-school children, in baptisms, weddings and funerals, and with our work amongst the elderly. The doors of the church building are always open (usually literally during daylight hours) to anyone who wishes to use this sacred space for quiet, prayer or contemplation. The clergy are always willing to chat with anyone who wishes to seek spiritual guidence, make a confession, or simply chat.

If you are not familiar with the Church of England:

Holy Trinity is a part of the much larger Church of England, which is in itself a part of the worldwide Church. The Church of England is divided up into forty-three Dioceses, each of which is a geographical area with a Bishop as the chief pastor. Each diocese is divided into Deaneries: smaller areas of several Parishes. The Parish is the smallest unit of organisation in the Church of England. Every person in the country lives within a Parish. So we are the Parish of Holy Trinity, Longlevens, and we are within the Deanery of Gloucester City, in the Diocese of Gloucester.

Our Ethos

Holy Trinity church tries to draw on the best of our Anglican traditions. We acknowledge the limitations of using 'labels' to describe church ethos, but our worship style might best be described as broad-church and modern catholic. Word and Sacrament are the central aspects of our life together, and the ground upon which all our pastoral work is based. The Eucharist is the central act of worship for us at Holy Trinity Church, and it is celebrated every Sunday, always at 8am, and usually at our main mid-morning service at 10.15am, where our worship includes singing and a congregational setting of parts of the communion service.

The Eucharist is celebrated every Wednesday at 10am in our beautiful Lady Chapel, and also on all Principal Feasts and Festivals of the Church.

Times of daily prayer underpin all that we do together as a Church, and Morning and Evening Prayer are said daily at a short service to which all are welcome.
